Do you think Tim Burton ruined Alice in Wonderland?

First off I love the book. It's an amazing satiric vision. In my opinion Burton completely destroyed this because he felt it was okay to make a completely new story. For one once again Johnny Depp is actualy the main character. The focus is clearly on the mad hatter (or an absolutely horrid representation of him) instead of Alice. He completely lost sight of what the book was even about, because he was too caught up trying to make it "weird". None of Burton's movies are weird though. If a movie is inspired by a book it shouldn't use the book as a bible, but it dtill needs to retain the same basic thoughts. Your opinions? Also don't act like I'm attacking your opinion because I'm not.
