How would my PS2 look on a LCD TV?

I've been looking for a LCD TV to buy and finally found a good one that I like at www.newegg.com. It's a 24 inch Sony HD TV (1080p) and I was wondering how it would look for my PS2. I tried a PS2 game at my Dad's house on his 42 inch Philips HD TV (720p) and it looked blocky and a little blurry. If it does look blocky could I fix it with HDMI cables? Or do you guys just recommend getting a PS3 or XBox360 to make it look better? Or will it not be blocky at all? Please help.
